Heba Raouf Ezzat, coordinator of the Civil Society Program for Research and Training in the Centre for Political Research and Studies of Cairo University, will talk on "Islam and Global Citizenship".
Tariq Ali, British Pakistani historian and writer who has written more than two dozen books on world history and politics and seven novels, will talk about "Perils of Islamophobia".

The event is part of the GLOBAL TRANSFORMATIONS lecture series convened by the Centre of Excellence in Global Governance Research, University of Helsinki. Economic globalisation and the emergence of a global order of governance pose challenges to the way we understand society and its transformations. This series will present scholars from many disciplines whose work contributes towards a theory of social relations at the global scale. Themes of the lectures will include the intersections between societies, cultures, ethnicities and religions, the significance of different value systems in a global socioeconomic framework, and new forms of politics involving states, supranational and international institutions, social movements, and civil society organisations as actors.
